Why is Website Security Important?

– Your website is the
anchor to your online presence and often your
first contact with customers. But if your site’s not secure
then you could be putting your business and your customers at risk. – I’m Darlene and this is Emily and today we’re going to talk
about the top three reasons why websites security is crucial
to your business success. (upbeat music) – First, like insurance, website security provides
business liability protection. While having a website opens up a world of opportunities for your business there are definitely some
risks you need to consider. – Look at it this way. If a hacker is able to steal
valuable customer information from your site and it’s
determined that you didn’t provide enough security features to prevent it. In many states your business
could be held liable and it’s going to cost you. – Second, websites security
protects your business’ revenue stream and maybe even
it’s financial viability. Not all hackers are cyber
thieves looking to steal data so of them are just plain mean. They’ll launch attacks
that crash your website and bring your business
to a complete halt. Which will cost you sales. – The average data breach for
a small or midsize business can cost upwards of $90,000. Which for a small business
could mean the end of their business. Why take the risk if you don’t have to? – Third, website security
builds brand and customer trust. What would you rather a
customer see when they visit your site, the little
HTTPS lock indicating a trusted website or the label not secure? – I don’t know about
you but I’m not entering any personal information
on a website that’s flagged as not secure, let
alone buy anything from ’em. – Implementing website security measures like Secure Socket Layer,
or SSL certificates which encrypt data that goes to and from your website is telling
your customers that you care about their information and you take their privacy seriously. – So it wrap it all
up, website security is so important to your business needs. It provides liability
protection, protects your revenue stream and builds customer trust. I’m Darlene, that’s Emily. Thanks for watching. (upbeat music)
