What is PROCESS ENGINEERING? What kind of job can you get with process engineering?

about process engineering and kind of, like, dismantle
some, I don’t know, thoughts about what it is because I actually don’t really know what process engineering is, and I’m here with an

for sponsoring this video. I guess the first question would be, what is process engineering? – Well, that’s a really
good question because I have asked that question to myself a lot and also to other people, and it’s a bit lengthy
because it’s so broad. But, basically, it covers
all the basics of engineering as we discuss the covering a lot of also mechanical engineering
parts in the beginning. And then, once you go more into detail of actual process engineering, it’s basically about developing or optimizing industrial processes, but it can really go into
any direction of industry, I’d say. – Can you give examples of what sort of industrial fields other students go into? Or is it really everything? Or is there kind of like
different categories that you can follow? – Yeah, the categories are like probably mechanical processes
or chemical processes. For example, lots of students
go into pulp and paper industry or chemical
industry or wherever you need a big plan that you need to figure out how the pipes go and the lines go and what are the actual chemical
processes happening inside. – And you said something about efficiency? – Yeah, exactly. Process engineering is not only about developing a new process but very often about optimizing your process, which would be energy efficiency or heat recovery as well as
having a better product output or a better reaction
rate, something like that. – Okay, so it sounds like basically design and product design is kind of like the manufacturing, engineering, and mechanical side of things, and then you have chemical processes. Is that also like a process engineer could work for a nuclear power plant? – Potentially because you
need a process engineer pretty much everywhere where you…. Because, I don’t know,
people have the idea, “Okay, we want to do this, but
how are we going to do it?” Then you have a process
engineer to actually develop the process on how to get there. – Oh, okay. So it’s not just like, if you…. It kind of sounds like
business entrepreneurship. I don’t know, I’m thinking if you have an electrical component,
like you want to build this component, maybe an
electrical engineer designs it and then the process engineer is like, “Okay, we need to get the tools, “we need to get the–” – How to install it and it’s
also about process safety, like you need to think
a little bit further than just how to make things, but it should, like, the first question that we get asked in our studies was, you look at something
and you look at problem and you’re like is this even possible? This could be the main
thing that you look at and then you find ways to get them. – Ah! That’s cool. So, out of all the
engineering disciplines, why did you choose process engineering? – That’s a good question. So it starts way back
because I went to a school which doesn’t have anything to do with engineering or technical stuff But then all those questions came. Where do you see yourself? What do you want to do? And all of the social stuff, I was like no I’m not social because
I knew that I wanted to change something,
but I don’t want to be fighting with rapids, which is funny because now I’m fighting
with river too fast. (both laugh) But anyways, I figured
we need the technology to actually be environmentally friendly and stuff like this. So I figured stuff like environmental tech engineering would be interesting. So I found a study program in Leoome at their Montag University, which was called industrial
environmental engineering, something like that. And then I figured out
that that’s pretty much process engineering and then I found – But why did you chose– (cough) study environmental engineering – Because it wasn’t available (laughs) – Oh, okay – And process engineering was the closes. I ques to have– – Okay, cool so it sounds like what process engineering you probaly go into a lot
of different fields or – Yeah – Did you do bachelors at
Technical University of Grads – Yeah – And then you just finished your masters – Yeah – So congratulations also me ( both laughs) – Um – Thanks for the support (both laughs) – And you did your masters thesis and, in what? – So for my master thesis. I’ve really wanted to
have another adventure because I like adventures (laughs) but also I wanted to go and
in environmental engineering so I found this project in Spain` its like researching that’s faster and I project available for including like the removal of um trace components like
from citric os and hormones from which extremes were I was working at they
tackled a lot of things like um wast bode treatment. Do experiment with slush and they had experiments
going threw Ozone. Which is very impressive gas which very much eliminate
every thing from waist water. So, its our project was
to test the hormones and from suitical waist prodisee which also nation so basically you have
bubble gum were your waist water side and your trace components and your bubble Ozone gas threw and this really attacks any
organic compounds in there – Wow – The main problem with this process it works pretty well already but there are a few problems one of them is its not
very energy efficient so you get a produce the Ozone on the spot because its only stable for
like twenty minutes or something in water so you have to
produce and the fraction Ozone takes a lot of electricity so we try to make this
process more efficient with so we can put so like we tried to
search for those compounds first on a calculus and
we tried the Ozone gas. Those compounds and then we combined it it should resolute anthelical Ozone and we the different experiments to see how that goes and how its and how its better than
the C mode process its self while the finding was all
of those processes works so mainly experimental
components really to get to a point were you could actually see the degrees in the components cause there so little um, amounts and its
actually hard to measure and we and we had to send the– – Pharmaceutical – Yeah – So its the process works
well that your pharmaceutical decrease so much– – Yeah – And then you, oh really – Yeah – Its really works well – It really works well,
yeah you can say that but then again your also you also have the problem
of secondary products in a different dimension
of pharmaceuticals like a very complicated organic compound and you attack it with Ozone and then it breaks into two probably even more toxic compounds (laughs) you definitely want to avoid that so also add research as found out that you could um attack the wider compounds– – Okay – Get the closer to
full the mineralizatiom. Which would be– – -better – Yeah – Okay, and what do people
or company currently do for hormones and pharmaceutical? – Yeah, like if you think
about that its a bit crazy because you realse all the waist but not only in the waist and you don’t know – Okay – Anyways you can actually so many project also thinking water that coming out of the directly highest considerations whih you also found out measure different (laughs) – Okay – Yeah but switerlan also has
actually has a program to get but anyways for example
also in Germany and France – Okay but in the next – But others than our current plans – That have Ozone is there
