What is it like to teach computing?

I think it’s, with all teaching you need to be creative which is something that I enjoy most of all that’s probably more my forte, to be creative, and that willingness to continually learn. And so if I’m in the classroom and the students are doing something, I very much react to what they’re doing I don’t necessarily stick to my lesson plan I will go with where I see their interests going and because they were enjoying the dance that’s why we took it further and the whole scheme of work developed from there really. If you have an information systems or a computer science degree you have something to share with the next generation coming through. If you have a passion for your subject, how could the children not feel impassioned, you know and join you and want to follow you in the classroom and see what the learning will take them. And it’s a career that provides lots of progression. So once you’ve done a few years as a teacher you can then move into being a head of department or you can train the next generation of teachers you can run lunchtime clubs, you can start working more cross-curricular with the STEM subjects science, technology, engineering and maths, or STEAM, science, technology, engineering, arts and maths. You could progress to assistant headship.
