Today, I am going show how easy it is to initiate a high-performance computing study, monitor its progress and get results by using Simcenter Amesim’s graphical user interface. Let us now show a complete workflow, step by step. Before we start, you need to configure your HPC settings. You can manually enter the configuration details, such as hostname, fingerprint, preferred job scheduler, and define resources, such as, number of nodes and number of cores. Another option is to simply import a configuration file, with pre-defined settings, provided by your IT department or system administrator. The first step consists in preparing a study, and then submitting the job to the HPC environment. The study can be a batch run, Design of Experiments or optimization. Here, you can allocate the number of cores and the number of nodes independently, for each study. In other words, you define the most suitable HPC resources for each of your individual jobs. Once the study is ready, you just need to specify HPC as the simulation target and click “start run” to submit the study to your HPC environment. The workflow is the same as the one used for local runs. Once the HPC study has been sent, you can monitor the progress of all submitted jobs in the HPC monitor. Let’s launch it. Here is the HPC run we have just submitted, status shows that it is currently running. As soon as the study is completed, you can download the simulation result with a single click. Once the download is finished, you can use the post processing tools to analyze the simulation results or invoke your dedicated post processing scripts. Here we can plot the batch run results with the Simcenter Amesim plot functionality. You might want to create a model, configure studies and launch an HPC study for all the concerned simulations and then close Simcenter Amesim or even shut down your computer, since big studies will take a long time to compute. Then, one day later, you might want to check the results. You just need to launch the Simcenter Amesim HPC monitor from the toolbar, without opening any model. As explained previously, you will get the list with the status of all the studies and be able to download the simulation results for completed jobs. To sum up, we have shown how, with a few clicks, you can submit HPC studies, monitor their progress and get results within Simcenter Amesim without deep expertise or knowledge of High Performance Computing environments.
