Is SSD Storage Always Faster? | HA Hosting

Is SSD storage always quicker? If you look at Virtual Servers or Web Hosting
packages online you will see SSD storage is a prominent feature. Whats an SSD? SSD stands for Solid State Disk, and is long
term data storage that is on a memory chip rather than a spinning disk. So generally they are faster. However not every SSD is the same. They vary widly in performance, some faster
than others. Some are better for reading data, others for
writing too . Also, it depends on how you setup your Storage
infrastructure. You can put a single SSD in a server and then
pile on loads of websites and virtual servers. And the chances are you are not going to get
very good results after a while. And you certainly won’t have that extra reliability
by having multiple disks. Or you can do what we did. We took a large number of enterprise-class
disks, we use Samsung PM range. So we took those SSD’s and we put them in
tens of servers and we connected them all with 40Gbit InfiniBand. And we have found the results we get are superb. So yes, SSD’s are quicker but it depends exactly
on the SSD and how well they are integrated into your system. If you want to know more contact me through
