Important Features You Need for Website Security

– Securing your site’s just like locking your door at night. You don’t do it because you
expect something bad to happen, you do it because if something did, well that would suck. – I’m Emily and this is Darlene. And in this video we’re
going to introduce you to the main features of a secure website. Let’s get started. (soft music) – When you register a domain name your persona information
is automatically published on to Who Is database
with you as the owner. So anybody can look that info up. – Yeah, domain privacy actually replaces all that information in the Who Is with that of a proxy
company’s information, so yours stays hidden. This means your personal
information stays private, but you still retain complete control of the domain name. – Your website’s content
management system, or CMS, can store anything from customer email addresses to sensitive data like car details or
social security numbers. So making sure that you have a secure CMS is super important to
protecting that information. – To make sure that your CMS is secure, always buy reputable
off the shelf software and we vigilant about keeping it current. – If you’re using an all
in one website builder like GoDaddy’s, then your CMS is on our hyper secure server and we keep it safe. If you’re using something third party, then the responsibility is all on you. – Customers want to feel safe when they’re entering any
type of data on your website, especially if they’re
purchasing something. This calls for a secure
connection like https, which requires an SSL Certificate. – An SSL, or secure
sockets layer certificate uses encryption to create
a secure connection between your website and
your client’s devices, making sure that no third party can slip in there to monitor, high jack or shut down a transaction. And if you think malware infects only big or popular sites, think again. Malware attacks are actually automated so they are constantly
scanning the internet for vulnerable sites, which means you are just as
much of a target as anyone. – That’s why it’s so important that your site have automatic malware scanning and monitoring. Add this should occur daily at a minimum. Not only on the front end where your customers can be effected but on the server side where infections can cost you valuable resources. – As soon as you publish your website, it becomes vulnerable to a variety of cyber threats. And newly created sites are
an especially tempting target. That’s here firewalls come in. – A firewall intercepts and inspects incoming data and automatically removes any malicious code, stopping malware before it even gets a chance to infect your site. – Look, servers crash,
malware makes the rounds, hackers are always gonna be out there trying to pry their way in. These are just the facts of life for your business website. – And the best way to safeguard your site is with website backups. Even better, automatic daily backups. That way if something unexpected occurs, you can restore your
site with just one click. – Protecting your website and your business’
reputation is a big deal. But we’ve got your back. – And if anything does happen GoDaddy security tools
will protect your site and help get you back on your feet quick. I’m Darlene, that’s Emily, thanks for watching. (soft music)
