Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for UTRGV Institute for Neuroscience in Harlingen

A groundbreaking ceremony was held November 6 for the UTRGV Institute for Neuroscience in Harlingen. The building will be located on Haine Drive and North Whalen Road. The Institute for Neuroscience will be an interdisciplinary institute within the UTRGV School of Medicine. The research and the clinical work that’s done here will be very important for the health of the Valley. Plans for the facility were first announced in 2017. That’s when the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation donated $15 million to UTRGV for the institute. The two-story building will house clinics and diagnostic centers for numerous neuro-psychiatric and aging disorders. It’s going to have research facilities for both psychiatric and neurologic disorders. It’s going to have imaging facilities, including MRIs and PET-CT scans. It’s going to have a center for clinical trials. This is just one more step towards having a fantastic medical school and being able to enrich the lives of people here in the Rio Grande Valley. The expected completion date for the building is July 2021. For more UTRGV construction project updates, visit UTRGV dot E-D-U slash construction. (swoosh) (swoosh)
