Enterprise network attacks, Nemty arrives, Clickjacking plagues advertisers, and more.

Hi, I’m Paul Torgersen. It’s Tuesday,
August 27th, 2019 and this is a look at the information security news from overnight. From ZDNet.com:
To the surprise of no one, hacker groups have started exploiting vulnerabilities that had
been made public earlier this month. Attacks have been seen the past week against Webmin,
Pulse Secure, and Fortinet FortiGate. All three types of attacks are equally dangerous,
as they target devices in enterprise networks, and allow attackers to take full control of
the targeted systems. From BleepingComputer.com:
A new ransomware has been spotted over the weekend, called Nemty after the extension
it adds to files after encrypting them. The attack vector is not known, but researchers
believe it is deployed via compromised remote desktop connections. There are some other
very interesting aspects to this one too that you may want to read in the article. From TechCrunch.com:
Web host Hostinger said it has reset user passwords as a “precautionary measure”
after it detected unauthorized access to a database containing information on millions
of its customers. In fact, information on about 14 million of its customers, about half
of their total customer base. Oops. From BleepingComputer.com:
A new phishing campaign uses fake resume attachments to deliver the Quasar remote administration
tool onto Windows targets. Quasar is known to be used by many different APT groups and
carries quite the nasty arsenal of tools. More details and some interesting links in
the article. And last today from ZDNet.com:
Clickjacking scripts have been found on 613 popular websites. Between them, those websites
generate about 43 million visits a day. While these kind of crooks have always generated
fake clicks on hidden ads, they are now hijacking real user clicks. There is a link to the research
in the article. That’s all for me today. Have a great rest
of your day and until tomorrow, be safe out there.
