DeKalb County task force hosting music festival for suicide prevention

well tragically one person dies by suicide every 11 minutes in the United States September is Suicide Prevention Month and there will be a special event this Saturday to create more awareness for this mental health issue can’t you have a very special guest today that’s been personally affected by suicide yeah Julian absolutely this is a very special woman and you talk about this subject I mean it’s very sensitive it’s very delicate but when you think about the statistics and especially in the state of Indiana in terms of suicide attempts and then tragically and unfortunately successes well somebody is trying to turn a negative into a positive Angie Hathaway is coordinating an event this Saturday that’ll be in aid out here in Auburn near right near downtown and it is into the light and Angie we talked about this last hour it’s very personal for you because you’ve had the unfortunate happenstance to live this experience I do I live it every single day I grieve it every single day I experience it I absorb it and now I’m here to do the prevention intervention and postvention of suicide awareness and prevention we’ve talked about this you lost a son 18 years old and it really is at your crusade to have somebody not lose their son or daughter right it’s devastating it’s the ripple effect is just awful you you wake up to it every day you go to sleep to it every night Ryan was my boy he’s not here he’s not here to say hey mom you need to put oil in your car or you need to do this for that so now my purpose is for the next person what are we going to do to help them so they don’t experience what we’re doing here I don’t think it discriminates on man woman boy girl race anything like that age you just don’t know and I think that’s part of the problem there is no real symptom ology sometimes where people don’t know that somebody is hurting or struggling inside true that’s why kindness empathy and grace it moves mountains literally now you’re trying to turn a negative into a positive talk about the event because you’re making it kind of like a music festival this Saturday it is we’re doing something different this year normally we do a walk this time we’re doing a music fest takabe outdoor theater September 7th from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. we will have a speaker Nathan shirk we will have six bands we have Jensen Snyder the motor focus the illegals the kickbacks Brecht Perot sick and mega marrow and Tom we’ll be singing their rendition of true colors and we’re gonna do a candlelight visual we have kids activities we have we’re working on cruising we have the food trucks we have resource tables we have it Alex Jordan Myles with Indiana State suicide available we have Bowen counseling Erin’s House of grieving fw 22 for the veterans will be present we the living for the grieving suiciders who are living the loss we have them available we just have so much going on and we’re trying to keep it light no alcohol no pets and family-friendly events it’s gonna be awesome thank you so much for giving up early with us this morning and congratulations of what you’ve built this event into we really appreciate your time Kent Julian again this Saturday and she has grown this event amazingly over the past few years and and again you know you don’t know how this can affect people you don’t know if you have a friend somebody’s sitting right next to you who is dealing with that internal struggle it’s events such as this that create more top of the mind awareness and then can hopefully hopefully offer some assistance and save a life that is so true Kent and talking about it and getting the word out is just the very first step and can really help possibly save a life so thank you so much and thanks to Angie as well okay
