Configuring Data Server Manager

hello everybody, welcome to digital technical engagement. Today I want to give an overview of the setup of data server manager. Before I start, I want to show you where you can download data server manager if you do not have it installed. This is the ibm page of Data Server Manager. There is a download button that you can click, and then specify your ibm id. Let’s start with the demo. Data server manager is a server based application that you can access via web console. During installation, specific a port, user id, and password. Then you can sign in on data server manager. When you sign in the first time to data server manager, the welcome page will display. There are four tiles that contain videos of tasks about data server manger. Let’s go to settings and then product setup. To connect and store meta data information it will need a repository database. Since I Have done some connections before, I have a database already created that will last some time. I have specified it on my local host and have a port number of 50,000. As well as created a database test. Here on this screen there are additional screens that you can change. If you use it in production and maybe want to use on other ports, problems with memory. Constraints of the application, if you want to send notifications by an email server, or get snpl alerts. This is what you can all specify later if you use it in production. Let’s go to the next section which is manage connections. As soon as you have installed it and want to monitor databases and instances, you have to add database connection. For example, database name you will choose an alias, then make it a database sample on my local machine. Host name is localhost The port number is set to 50,000 and then enable data collection in my case only. Then specify the credentials that it will be used for. I will use my local user that has the authority to add this database collection. Check the test connection information. This one was successful so I click ok to close it. The information about the database connection is then stored in the database repository. These are the connections. If you want to add more users so you can share your data serve manager with others then you can specify additional user ids and passwords. That can be either administrator or a user. If they are a user then you have to specify which database they can monitor. That is all about the setup. Now, let’s go to the home page. In your home page you will see all your catalog databases and the instance behind them. It will give the information from the servers, the system CPU, server CPU, transaction rates, or memory usage. You can specify more or less of the information you want to display about the machines. Change the view so that you can compare what is going on with the system in different views. This has all been apart of the beginning setup. Thank you for watching this video. If you want to view more videos, product tours, or hands-on labs then go to this URL to look up more on Db2 there. music
