Arts & Education:  SPARK! Missoula hosting showcase event

well in this week’s arts and education we introduced you to spark Missoula a nationally recognized organization bringing the visual arts to western Montana spark Missoula is one of 25 sites across the country to team up with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC to bring the any given child initiative to Missoula this program focuses on ensuring equal access to diverse arts learning opportunities for any given child in our community Jaclyn snow director of the spark program in Missoula has her background in teaching so she knows just how important a program like this can be the more that I use theater in my English classroom the more that I noticed that students would engage and the classroom community would change kids were more accepting of one another they were more willing to take academic risks and they just paid attention rather than being bored and so the more that I did that the more I started trying out other art forms SPARC coordinators actively work with each teacher to come up with a program that is fun and educational at the same time and Jacqueline says it’s during these times you really see what a difference art can make I see students have that light bulb go on when they just didn’t get a concept before and then all of a sudden when they put it into their body through dance they get it I see kids getting along with one another and making new friends now if you have questions or want to experience the impact of spark for yourself make plans to head down to the Wilma on Friday May 4th for the 2nd annual spark spring showcase where you can experience the art work featuring Missoula County public school students it’s really a celebration of all of the Arts that we’ve had going on in the schools all year long and it’s free to the public and there will be some auctions some free giveaways and some raffles opportunities to make art see performances it’ll be a really fun time and again if you would like to check out the spark spring showcase for yourself will be held this Friday evening that’s tomorrow May 4th from 5:15 to 7:30 at the Wilma
